Alarm Watchdog Setup Guide

This guide walks you through setting up Alarm Watchdogs in the SmartgridX platform to automatically monitor system behavior and notify you when issues occur.

Activation Required

This feature needs to be activated for your account. Please contact to enable it.

Step 1: Navigate to the Watchdog Page

In the left sidebar, go to Alarms, then click the Watchdogs tab at the top of the screen.

Step 2: Create a New Watchdog

Click the + Add button to start creating a new watchdog.

General

  • Type: Select Status (only this option is currently supported).
  • Property of: Choose the owner of this watchdog (e.g., customer or installation group).
  • Description: Optionally, add a name or description for easier identification.

Click Next to continue.

Step 3: Set Frequency

  • Frequency: The only available option is 1 Hour(s).

This means the watchdog will run every hour and evaluate the monitored conditions.

Click Next to proceed to actions.

Step 4: Configure Actions

Here you configure what happens when an alarm is triggered.

Channels Supported

  • Mail: Supported by default.
  • SMS: Available on request. Contact support to enable this channel.

Trigger Condition

  • Alarm status: Choose whether to trigger the action when the alarm is turned On (active) or Off (cleared).
  • Status duration: Optionally specify how long (in seconds) the condition must be true before triggering the action. For example, trigger only if an alarm stays active for more than 3600 seconds (1 hour).

Message Customization

You can define:

  • Recipients: Select receiver groups who should get the notification.
  • Language: Choose the language for the notification message.
  • Subject and Body: Customize the message content (HTML is supported).
Using Variables

You can use variables in the subject and body to include dynamic information:

  • {{date}} — Timestamp when the alarm status changed.
  • {{#points}}{{name}}{{/points}} — A list of affected entities (e.g., installation names).

After configuring the action details, click Add to save this specific action. You can add multiple actions (e.g., one for alarm On, another for alarm Off).

Once all desired actions are added, click Add again at the bottom to finalize and save the watchdog configuration.

Step 5: Enable Supervision

To make the watchdog functional, you must define what it supervises. This is done after saving the initial watchdog configuration. Select the newly created watchdog from the list and configure the supervision settings at the bottom of the interface.

Supervised Entities

Select one or more entity types the watchdog should monitor:

  • Installation
  • Smart grid controller site
  • Wind farm
  • (Any other entity type relevant to your organization)

Supervised Alarms

Choose the specific alarm conditions the watchdog should monitor for the selected entities:

  • No production data
  • No energy storage data
  • No grid data
  • Production is zero
  • PR (%)
  • Upt. (%)
  • (Other configured alarms)
Required

If no supervision is selected (neither entities nor alarms), the watchdog will not run and will not trigger any actions. Make sure to configure both Supervised Entities and Supervised Alarms.

Step 6: Monitor Watchdogs

After saving your watchdog, it will appear in the list on the Watchdogs tab. You can:

  • Click the watchdog's name to review its configuration (General, Frequency, Actions).
  • Click View to inspect the execution results and status history.
  • Edit (pencil icon) or Remove (trash icon) the watchdog as needed.

The watchdog will automatically run every hour, evaluate the supervised alarms for the specified entities, and trigger notifications based on your configured actions.
